CARRIERS

Still 25% owned by Swedish carrier SJ, Linkon naturally has the requirements of travel carriers at its very heart. It understands the challenges facing the industry and its customers and is constantly striving to ensure that it remains competitive in an environment where global 24/7 access to travel planning and ticketing is considered ‘mandatory’.

Linkon doesn’t only work with rail networks, it can also count bus, taxi and other metropolitan transit providers amongst its partners.

Linkon’s platform forms a central data repository which facilitates the management, sharing, 24/7 access and real time information on all sales transactions and reservations. Enabling carriers, their distributors and their sales agents to provide seamless journey planning and efficient ticketing, payment and settlement to their partners and customers.

DISTRIBUTORS

Although it is apparent that airlines are gradually moving away from the legacy business model that existed to inter-operate between airline vendors during the early days of computerised reservations systems, it is becoming apparent that airlines are adopting a more direct approach, with some airlines even charging a premium if tickets are booked through a third party distribution system (ie a distributor).

However, the hotels and car rental industry continue to benefit from such distribution networks, especially the disposal of last-minute inventory. To this extent there is no reason why the rail travel industry can’t take advantage of such systems.

Linkon works with distributors to give them real time information thereby making inventory control and cash flow easier to manage. Linkon also gives distributors the ability to sell multiple tickets in one transaction to their agents and makes settlement quicker and more efficient.

SALES AGENTS

The travel retail environment may be gradually moving towards a predominantly online space, but there are two things which unite both online and offline travel retailing and those are travel planning and ticketing.

Regardless of whether or not a traveller is accessing data via a ticket machine or online travel agent or they are sitting in the warmth of a high street sales agent or in front of their corporate travel manager, they are guaranteed a seamless travel planning experience if the Linkon platform and API are used.

Online, in a shop or at a kiosk, Linkon’s software offers sales agents and travellers a simple way to create itineraries, no matter how complex the journey and produces one ticket for the whole trip in just one sales transaction.

It also ensures swift settlement for better cash flow.
